Bikes can be hired from the campsite to get out and explore further. The Atlantic cycling route – the Velodyssey runs through the area so why not have a go and enjoy part of the stage between La Tranche sur Mer and Jard sur Mer?
La Tranche sur Mer is one of the region’s most popularresorts and it’s not hard to see why with 5 miles of white sandy beaches. Theresort overlooks the Ile de Re. During peak season you can enjoy a boat touraround the Ile de Re and out to the impressive Fort Boyard. In the evenings theresort comes alive with live music and street entertainment.
La Rochelle is an hour’s drive away and is fascinating for aday out. Its historical past is very much evident in the fortresses that youcan see, some of which you can visit. If you carry on a bit further you canreach the Ile de Re. This island is brilliant for cycling around and there areplenty of opportunities to enjoy delicious seafood here too.
The local area is good for keen cyclists with the Velodysseypassing through the region. The Velodyssey path runs down the whole of theFrench Atlantic coastline – meaning you can tackle a little of it, or a lot!There are many spots en route that go close to the beaches where you can enjoya cooling dip.
